“Starting from the Middle” exhibition in Feshane was targeted

İstanbul Metropolitan Municipality’s exhibition in Artİstanbul Feshane, “Starting from the Middle” was targeted by a group of civilians claiming that the art on display was perversion and protested in front of the venue. The exhibition was closed until the crowd dispersed and was later reopened


The Municipality reopened Artİstanbul Feshane after a 5 year restoration period. Its first exhibition, “Starting from the Middle, ” was put together by 19 curators with over 400 artworks by 300 artists. The exhibition was opened on June 22 and only two days after was targeted by a civilian group.

According to the news on Bianet, The group which gathered in front of the venue they claimed that the exhibition included images of “pagan rituals, nudity and hostility towards the police and promotion of LGBT and socialism”. They claimed the exhibition was “perversion”. Entries to the exhibition were suspended until the group dispersed.
