Five of the 47 people taken into custody during the operation into the Socialist Party of the Oppressed (ESP) which took place in a number of provinces on 14 January were detained. Among those taken into custody were Medine Çam, Nazlı Masatçı, Mehmet Küçükgünaydın, Yunus Kara, and Ensar Albağlar from Yenikapı Theatre, who are also participants to the Speak Up Platform. Referred to the court with a request for detention, ESP Co-Chair Attorney Özlem Gümüştaş and ETHA correspondent Pınar Gayıp were released into house arrest. 27 people were released on a judicial control decision.
FIVE DETAINED
The court, to which a number of people were referred with a request for detention, judged for the detention of Gülşah Padak. Taken into custody during the operation, the ESP Chair Özlem Gümüştaş and former İzmir Provincial Chair Pınar Türk were confined to house arrest. Referred to the court with a request for detention, ESP İstanbul Co-Chair Ezgi Bahçeci, HDP party assembly member Sıtkı Güngör, ESP Manager Kerim Altınmakas, Limter (Ship Building and Maritime Transport, Storage and Warehousing Workers Union) Trade Union Organization Specialist Deniz Bakır and Gülşah Polat were detained.
HOUSE ARREST FOR JOURNALIST PINAR GAYIP
ETHA correspondent Pınar Gayıp was released into house arrest. The court also decided on a foreign travel ban for Gayıp. Ceren Çoban, Alev Özkiraz and Satiye Ok were released into house arrest.
Among the people taken into custody in last week’s operations who were released on a judicial control condition are Yenikapı Theatre actors who are also participants to the Speak Up Platform. Those released are the following: Zindan Dorudemir, Medine Çam, Safa Ensar Albağlar, Tuncay Kılıç, Nazlı Masatçı, Kamil Ağaoğlu, Mehmet Küçük Günaydın, İsmail Özer, Eda Can Demir, Yunus Kara, Ozan Özgenler, Nesrin Salduz, Engin Ateş, Nevzat Alkan, Emrah Alkan, Deniz Çanak, Deniz Dilli, Zeynel Sabaz, Kutay Soybil, Akgün Irgat, Cihan Taşkın, Efe Özcan, Güldem Hantaş, Mehmet Fatih Bilben, Rezzan Mintaş, Erol Erol, and Talat Bingöl.
YENİ ASIR (NEW AGE) NEWSPAPER TARGETED ORÇUN MASATÇI BEFORE
Among the Speak Up Platform participants taken into custody on 14 January, Orçun Masatçı, İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Theatre Coordinator and brother of the Yenikapı Theatre actress Nazlı Masatçı, will be transferred to the courthouse today due to his being in quarantine as a result of Covid-19.
When Orçun Masatçı was appointed as coordinator to the municipal theatre, the Yeni Asır newspaper, published in İzmir, reported the news in its headlines as “Soyer’s Terrorist Theatre” and accused the theatre actors of being members of a terrorist organization. Putting the theatre actors and the Yenikapı Theatre in the line of fire with reports on the matter, the newspaper claimed that many digital materials, banned publications, and terrorist organization documents purported to belong to Masatçı.
