Indictment against Ergenç and Kocaoğlu

A public case has been filed against Halit Ergenç and Rıza Kocaoğlu, who were arrested as part of the Gezi Park investigation, and Ayşe Barım, their manager, on charges of “false testimony,” with a sentence of 2 to 4 years in prison.

The investigation against famous actors Halit Ergenç and Rıza Kocaoğlu for allegedly giving false testimony in the Ayşe Barım case has been turned into a prosecution. An open case has been filed against the two actors, seeking prison sentences of between two and four years. The indictment, which calls for Ergenç and Kocaoğlu to be imprisoned for up to four years on the charge of “giving false testimony”, has been sent to the Istanbul 24th Criminal Court for review. Ergenç and Kocaoğlu are listed as “suspects” in the indictment.
A preliminary investigation was opened against Ayşe Barım, founder and partner of ID Danışmanlık Limited Şirketi, based on written and visual media claims that she had participated in the Gezi Park events. Barım, who was arrested on 24 January on charges of “attempting to overthrow the government of the Republic of Turkey or preventing it from carrying out its duties”, was detained by the court on 27 January.
During the investigation, well-known actors Halit Ergenç, Bergüzar Korel, Mehmet Günsur, Ceyda Düvenci, Nejat İşler, Rıza Kocaoğlu and Nehir Erdoğan testified. The prosecutor claimed that Kocaoğlu and Ergenç, who had allegedly been with Ayşe Barım in Gezi Park, had given evasive answers in order to protect the suspect, and an investigation was opened against the two actors on charges of “false testimony”.
