Kurdish artist Mazlum Akpolat, also known as Mazlum Jinda, was arrested on charges of “making illegal organization propaganda.” This follows a finalized prison sentence of 22 months and 15 days. According to Mezopotamya Agency, Akpolat was detained in Beyoğlu, Istanbul, and subsequently transferred to Metris Prison. He is expected to be moved to Silivri Prison today, February 3.
In June 2016, a lawsuit was filed against Akpolat at the Istanbul Courthouse’s 35th High Criminal Court for “making illegal organization propaganda” through his song “Xewna sed sala” (The Dream of the Century). He was sentenced to 22 months and 15 days in prison. Akpolat appealed this verdict through his lawyer, but the Court of Appeal upheld the sentence. He then took the case to the Court of Cassation, which approved the sentence on October 16, 2019, making it final.
