Manager Ayşe Barım arrested

Barım, who was arrested as part of an investigation into allegations that she was one of the “planners” of the Gezi Park protests, is charged with “aiding an attempt to overthrow the government of the Republic of Turkey or prevent it from performing its duties.”

Ayşe Barım, founder and manager of ID İletişim, was detained on January 24 on charges of “attempting to overthrow the government of the Republic of Turkey or prevent it from performing its duties” as part of an investigation launched against her on the grounds that she was one of the “planners” of the Gezi Park protests. She was arrested on January 27.
The investigation against Barım was conducted under the charge of “aiding and abetting an attempt to overthrow the Government of the Republic of Turkey or prevent it from performing its duties.”
After giving her statement to the prosecutor’s office, Ayşe Barım was referred to the duty magistrate’s court by Deputy Chief Prosecutor Can Tuncay and prosecutor Furkan Kafalı with a request for her arrest on the same charge, and she was detained.
Barım, who is among the leading managers in the Turkish cinema industry and also works in social media management and press consultancy for TV series and film projects, came to the forefront on social media with allegations of “monopolization in the TV series industry.” While these posts were ongoing, the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office initiated an investigation on its own initiative based on the claims in the news reports.
In the investigation involving Barım, Halit Ergenç, Bergüzar Korel, Nehir Erdoğan, Dolunay Soysert, Rıza Kocaoğlu, and Mehmet Günsür, who are employed by ID İletişim, the company owned by the detained manager, as well as famous names such as Nejat İşler and Ceyda Düvenci, were also heard as witnesses. Later, a separate investigation was initiated against Halit Ergenç and Rıza Kocaoğlu on charges of “false testimony.”
