A decision was made to confiscate and ban Fırat Can’s novel “Umut ve Mavi” and Nilüfer Şahin’s novel “Gün Işarken,” both published by Aryen Publications in 2022. However, the publishing house was not notified of the ban on these two books.
When the publishing house applied for a banderol for new editions of the novels, they received a warning stating: “Due to the judicial decision regarding the book in question, it is not possible to apply for a banderol.” Upon further investigation, the publishing house discovered that in 2022, the Eskişehir 2nd Criminal Judgeship of Peace ruled to ban and confiscate “Gün Işarken,” while the Izmir 2nd Criminal Judgeship of Peace made a similar decision for “Umut ve Mavi.” These actions were taken under the framework of TMK 7/2 and Press Law 25/2, resulting in a nationwide prohibition of both publications.
