Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) revoked the license of Açık Radyo for failing to comply with a 5-day program suspension for “inciting the public to hatred and hostility”. Açık Radyo announced that a stay of execution had been ordered by the Administrative Court, where the case regarding the broadcast suspension and fine was heard until a new decision was made.
Açık Radyo’s full statement is as follows: “As it is known, the process following the decision of the RTÜK to suspend broadcasting and fine our radio station, taken at its meeting on 22.05.2024, has been shared with the public at every stage. As stated in our first statement dated June 28, 2024, we have applied for judicial remedies regarding the decision taken. In the mentioned process, the Administrative Court has decided to suspend the execution of the action subject to the lawsuit, since the action subject to the lawsuit is aimed at stopping the broadcast of the program and may cause irreparable damage if implemented, until the defendant administration’s defense and interim decision response is received or until the time to respond to the defense and interim decision has passed and a new decision is made.
Of course, the legal process is ongoing and the developments in the judicial process will be shared with the public. In addition, in line with the decision, an application has been made to the RTÜK regarding the ongoing broadcasting process of our radio station. We will continue to share the developments with the public, believing the issue will be clarified as soon as possible.
