Poet Yılmaz Odabaşı charged with “membership of an organization”

Odabaşı is accused of “making terrorist propaganda” and “being a member of a terrorist organization” for sharing Ömer Faruk Gergerlioğlu’s hashtag “No to strip searches in prisons” and commenting on the issue

Poet and writer Yılmaz Odabaşı was charged with “making propaganda for a terrorist organization” after sharing Ömer Faruk Gergerlioğlu’s hashtag “No to strip searches in prisons” on social media and commenting on the issue.
The news was announced by Odabaşı’s lawyer, Gamze Pamuk, on her X social media account. Yılmaz Odabaşı also revealed in a post on his X account that he would be tried for “membership in a terrorist organization”: “Today, at the Counter-Terrorism Unit, I was questioned for sharing Mr. Ö. Faruk Gergerlioğlu’s ‘No to strip searches in prisons’ hashtag and commenting on the matter, accused of ‘propagandizing for the FETÖ armed terrorist organization.’ I am a leftist from the 78 generation with 40 years of experience. Because I said that ‘conducting naked searches on women in prisons is a shameful human rights violation,’ I am now being tried for being a member of the ‘FETÖ armed terrorist organization.’ Trying to fabricate an organization’s propaganda out of a human rights violation, like squeezing oil out of a fly, is a legal absurdity, even a legal scandal, and a very grim example of how the rule of law is now being dragged through the mud in Turkey…”
