The Board of Classification and Evaluation of Motion Pictures under the Ministry of Culture and Tourism decided that the film “Rojbash” (Hello), directed and scripted by Özkan Küçük, was “not suitable for commercial circulation and screening” and did not issue the film with a copyright certificate. The Media and Legal Studies Association (MLSA) filed a lawsuit for a stay of execution and annulment of the decision.
“Rojbash” tells the story of a group of Kurdish theater actors coming together after 25 years to re-stage a Kurdish play called Rojbash and the challenges they face. The actors play themselves in the movie, which also deals with the fact that the oppression of the Kurdish language has not changed over the years.
