Vallus, an exhibition on censorship, self-censorship, obstruction, and restriction organized by Ye’r Community at Eskişehir Vecihi Hürkuş Aviation Museum Hangar II between April 27th and May 16th, was closed earlier than scheduled.

The exhibition, organized by Ye’r Community, an Eskisehir-based art initiative, was removed on Friday, May 10, following an arbitrary early closure for a planned dinner for muhtars.

Ye’r Community and the artists whose works are included in the exhibition stated that their attempts to ensure that the exhibition in the space allocated by Tepebaşı Municipality remains open until the specified date was not reciprocated and that all communication channels they tried to open in this process were blocked as a result of their meetings with the deputy mayor of Tepebaşı.

The initiative called on Tepebaşı Municipality to demonstrate the necessary sensitivity, arguing that the pressure which jeopardizes the security of the artworks and includes restrictions—one of the key issues the exhibition addresses—is a practice aimed at undermining the stability of art.
