{"id":331,"date":"2020-10-05T10:32:55","date_gmt":"2020-10-05T07:32:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/susma24.com\/en\/?p=331"},"modified":"2020-10-05T10:38:02","modified_gmt":"2020-10-05T07:38:02","slug":"musician-hozan-cane-released-from-prison","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/susma24.com\/en\/index.php\/musician-hozan-cane-released-from-prison\/","title":{"rendered":"Musician Hozan Can\u00ea released from prison"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The lawyer of the musician Hozan Can\u00ea, who was sentenced to six years and three months of imprisonment on charges of \u2018membership to a terrorist organization\u2019 in Turkey, and who had been in prison for the last two years, announced that his client had been released.<\/p>\n<p>Nevroz Akalan, Hozan Can\u00ea\u2019s lawyer, said in a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dw.com\/tr\/hozan-cane-serbest-b%C4%B1rak%C4%B1ld%C4%B1\/a-55113909\"><strong>statement<\/strong><\/a> that Hozan Can\u00ea left the prison in Bak\u0131rk\u00f6y where she had been kept, in the evening of September 30.\u00a0 Emphasizing that his client is still subject to a ban from leaving the country, Akalan explained that the court accepted the musician\u2019s defense asserting the disproportionality of the long period of detention, and allowed for her release.<\/p>\n<p>The trial of the artist will continue with the next hearing to be held on October 20, 2020 in Edirne.<\/p>\n<p><strong>WHAT HAPPENED?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>German citizen and artist Saide \u0130nan\u00e7, known as Hozan Can\u00ea, was taken into custody in Edirne, short before the presidential elections in 2018.<\/p>\n<p>Hozan Can\u00ea was initially charged with \u2018membership to a terrorist organization\u2019, and her re-trial had started after the case was dismissed by the 16<sup>th<\/sup> Penal Chamber of the Court of Cassation based on merits and procedure. It was established that there was no evidence of \u2018membership to a terrorist organization\u2019, there were elements of \u2018propaganda\u2019 in the case and that such propaganda could constitute the offence of aiding the terrorist organization.<\/p>\n<p>Her daughter G\u00f6n\u00fcl \u00d6rs, who had gone to Turkey to visit Hozan Can\u00ea was also taken into custody with accusations of terrorism, and was released pending trial, with a ban from leaving the country.
