{"id":328,"date":"2020-10-01T15:47:41","date_gmt":"2020-10-01T12:47:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/susma24.com\/en\/?p=328"},"modified":"2020-10-01T15:47:41","modified_gmt":"2020-10-01T12:47:41","slug":"hearing-held-for-ersan-pekins-book-which-stands-trial-on-charges-of-obscenity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/susma24.com\/en\/index.php\/hearing-held-for-ersan-pekins-book-which-stands-trial-on-charges-of-obscenity\/","title":{"rendered":"Hearing held for Ersan Pekin\u2019s book which stands trial on charges of &#8220;obscenity&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sales and display in stores and shop windows of the book titled \u201cBu Kad\u0131nlar Yedi Bitirdi Beni\u201d (Consumed by Women), written in 2013 by Ersan Pekin and published by \u0130kinci Adam Publishing Company, had been\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/susma24.com\/aile-bakanligindan-kitaba-yasak\/\"><strong>banned<\/strong><\/a> last February by the Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Services .<\/p>\n<p>Later, in July 2020,\u00a0a <a href=\"https:\/\/susma24.com\/ersan-pekinin-kitabina-mustehcenlik-davasi\/\"><strong>lawsuit<\/strong><\/a> was filed against Pekin on grounds of \u201cobscenity\u201d (Turkish Penal Code Article 226\/2).<\/p>\n<p>The first hearing of the case, where the author is facing a penalty of up to 3 years of imprisonment, was held at \u0130stanbul Anatolian Courthouse 2<sup>nd<\/sup> Criminal Court of Peace, on September 22, 2020.<\/p>\n<p>After the hearing, upon a <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.vn\/BVJoU\">news<\/a>\u00a0report published by D\u00fc\u015f\u00fcnce Su\u00e7una Kar\u015f\u0131 Giri\u015fim (Initiative for Freedom of Expression) on September 23 announcing that an arrest warrant had been issued for Pekin, Susma Platformu (Speak Up Platform) contacted the publishing company, which stated that the warrant might have been issued because of the author not attending the hearing.<\/p>\n<p>According to the news report on D\u00fc\u015f\u00fcnce Su\u00e7una Kar\u015f\u0131 Giri\u015fim, the author had come into contact with a Covid-19 patient and was therefore in quarantine and that the warrant was still issued despite the fact that he notified the court, first by phone, informing them he had come into contact with a person with Covid-19, and then he submitted the report stating that he was \u201crisky\u201d by courier to the court.<\/p>\n<p>So far, Ersin Pekin has not made any statements on the issue.
