Kurdish artist Hozan Can\u00ea\u2019s case was reheard on Thursday, 6 August. Hozan was previously tried in Turkey for alleged \u2018membership to a terrorist organisation\u2019 and sentenced to 6 years and 3 months in prison. During the hearing that was held in Edirne, the court ruled in favour of the continued detention of Can\u00ea and adjourned the trial to 3 September.<\/p>\n
According to a news report on DW Turkish, Frank Schwabe, who is the Human Rights Policy Spokesperson of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) Parliamentary Group, was also there to observe the trial which was held upon the appeal to the previous ruling.<\/p>\n
Releasing a statement on Twitter prior to his travel to Turkey, the politician tweeted that Hozan Can\u00ea had been unfairly detained in prison for the last two years on political grounds, with an international travel ban placed on her daughter, and that he was going to Turkey in the hope of bringing them back to Germany, where they lived, and to lend his support.<\/p>\n
